Wake! For the Sun, who scatter'd into flight
The Stars before him from the Field of Night,
  Drives Night along with them from Heav'n, and strikes
The Sultán's Turret with a Shaft of Light.

其一

驱尽繁星天宇澄,扫除长夜看东升。殷勤又唤浮生梦,遥射宫楼最上层。

繁星:傅玄《杂诗》其一:“繁星依青天,列宿自成行。”天宇:天空也。左思《魏都赋》:“傮响起,疑震霆。天宇骇,地庐惊。”扫除:廓清也。《三国志·蜀志·先主传》:“扫除寇难,靖匡王室。”长夜:《楚辞·九章·悲回风》:“终长夜之曼曼兮,掩此哀而不去。”殷勤:关注貌。曹操 《请追赠郭嘉封邑表》:“贤君殷勤于清良,圣祖敦笃于明勋。”浮生:《庄子·刻意》:“其生若浮,其死若休。”此句译原文之“觉矣!”(Wake!)宫楼:宫中之殿阁楼宇。张籍《寒食内宴》其一:“朝光瑞气满宫楼。”宫楼最上层,译“苏丹之塔楼”,盖用原文则韵致不易协也。

Before the phantom of False morning died,
Methought a Voice within the Tavern cried,
  "When all the Temple is prepared within,
Why nods the drowsy Worshipper outside?"

其二

客舍微茫见晓星,忽闻高语苦叮咛:“堂前乐圣歌将作,枕上游仙梦早醒。”

客舍:旅人投宿处。王维《送元二使安西》:“客舍青青柳色新。”晓星:侵晨所见欲沉之星也。或云,即太白也。李商隐《嫦娥》:“长河渐落晓星沉。”高语:高声语也。陆游《五月二十一日风雨大作》:“对面不闻高语声。”乐圣:唐李适之《罢相作》:“避贤初罢相,乐圣且衔杯。”盖用《三国志·魏志·徐邈传》故实,以“乐圣”为嗜酒。此句译原文“神宫之设醮皆已备矣”。彼之设醮,即乐酒神也。游仙梦:饰言睡梦也。洪升《长生殿·闻乐》:“好凭一枕游仙梦,暗授千秋法曲音。”

The Tavern shouted—"Open then the Door!
  You know how little while we have to stay,
And, once departed, may return no more."

其三

一唱雄鸡起主人,便闻客子打门频:“莫将《蒿里》无常曲,负却樽前有限身。”

一唱雄鸡:毛泽东《浣溪沙·和柳亚子先生》:“一唱雄鸡天下白。”盖用李贺《致酒行》:“雄鸡一声天下白。”蒿里:《汉书·广陵厉王刘胥传》:“蒿里召兮郭门阅,死不得取代庸,身自逝。”颜师古注:“蒿里,死人里。”故用为挽歌名。晋崔豹《古今注·音乐》:“亦谓人死魂魄归于蒿里……使挽柩者歌之,世呼为挽歌。”此句译原文“吾辈但得稍留耳,一旦行,恐不能复归矣。”彼以喻浮生耳。有限身:李敬方《劝酒》:“日日无穷事,区区有限身。”盖客子所叩者,酒舍也。

其四

万象新生赖一元,幽人观化到无言。谁将花雪招招至?自见天心漠漠存。

万象:天地诸物象也。谢灵运《从游京口北固应诏》:“万象咸光昭。”一元:《公羊传·隐公元年》:“元者何?君之始年也。”董仲舒《春秋繁露·玉英》:“谓一元者,大始也。”用为岁之始也。幽人:幽居之士。《易·履》:“履道坦坦,幽人贞吉。”观化:观造化之运也。《庄子·至乐》:“且吾与子观化而化及我,我又何恶焉!”李白《送岑徵君归鸣皋山》:“探玄入窅默,观化游无垠。”此句译原文“玄思之魂退藏于寂”。谁将二句,译原文“彼寂处也,其枝缀白华,雪色如摩西之手;而耶稣之息,出乎其地中。”二典入华言不韵,以儒家“天地之常,以其心普万物而无心”之意达之。

And Jamshyd's Sev'n-ring'd Cup where no one knows;
  But still a Ruby kindles in the Vine,
And many a Garden by the Water blows.

其五

苑中玉树曲方阑,杯里金茎露又乾。惟有年年春水畔,万千红紫尽君欢。

玉树曲:《陈书·皇后传·后主张贵妃》:“后主每引宾客对贵妃等游宴,则使诸贵人及女学士与狎客共赋新诗,互相赠答。采其尤艳丽者以为曲词,被以新声……其曲有《玉树后庭花》《临春乐》等,大指所归,皆美张贵妃 、 孔贵嫔之容色也。”此以陈后主之宫苑譬原文之Iram园也。皆盛极而衰。金茎露:李商隐 《汉宫词》:“不赐金茎露一杯。”冯浩笺注引《三辅黄图》:“建章宫有神明台,武帝造,祭仙人处。上有承露台,有铜仙人舒掌捧铜盘玉杯,以承云表之露,和玉屑服之。”此以汉武帝之铜盘玉杯譬原文Jamshyd之七环杯也。皆欲久而斩。

其六

诗律长瘖似冻乌,殷勤谁解劝提壶?不辞唱尽春风媚,添与蔷薇一点朱。

诗律句:陈维崧《和荔裳先生韵亦得十有二首》其六:“诗律三年废,长瘖似冻乌。”此句译原文“大卫之歌唇锁矣”。盖云歌云诗,其实一也。殷勤:反复貌。《后汉书·陈蕃传》:“天之于汉,恨之无已,故殷勤示变,以悟陛下。”《北史·拓拔澄传》:“澄亦尽心匡辅,事有不便于人者,必于谏诤殷勤不已,内外咸敬惮之。”提壶:提壶鸟之鸣声。提壶鸟,亦作“提壶芦”,“提胡芦”,即鹈鹕。周紫芝 《提壶芦》:“提壶芦,树头劝酒声相呼,劝人沽酒无处沽。”用以譬原文之夜莺。其鸣声皆类劝酒也。唱尽:原文夜莺鸣声之“酒,酒,酒,殷红酒。”此揭其声之急促不止也。

The Winter-garment of Repentance fling:
  The Bird of Time has but a little way
To flutter—and the Bird is on the Wing.

其七

春阳驱尽去年心,好共东风酒满斟。君看长空孤鸟去,不堪万古此消沉。

春阳句:译“汝之悔也如寒衣,请掷诸春阳间。”而笔拙不能达原文之譬喻意也。初译“红泥炉火葬青襟,便与春风酒满斟。”句似尚不通也。君看二句:杜牧《登乐游原》:“长空澹澹孤鸟没,万古销沉向此中。”此译原文“时之逝也如鸟,其路无多,而今已振其翅矣。”而感慨尤深焉。

Whether at Naishápúr or Babylon,
Whether the Cup with sweet or bitter run,
  The Wine of Life keeps oozing drop by drop,
The Leaves of Life keep falling one by one.

其八

问甚故园和帝京?云何醪浊与酤清?生涯终似杯杯浅,寿命偏如叶叶轻。

帝京:帝都也。《汉武故事》:“上幸河东,欣言中流,与群臣饮宴,顾视帝京,乃自作《秋风辞》。”原文Naishápúr,奥玛珈音之故园也,Babylon,古巴比伦国之帝都也。醪浊、酤清:酒之浊清也。 左思 《魏都赋》:“清酤如济,浊醪如河。”酒之清者佳、浊者劣,故以译原文之甘、苦也。

Each Morn a thousand Roses brings, you say:
Yes, but where leaves the Rose of Yesterday?
  And this first Summer month that brings the Rose
Shall take Jamshyd and Kaikobád away.

其九

若言日日有花红,谁见年年花尽同?君看门前春水涨,浪花淘尽古英雄。

年年花:刘希夷《代悲白头翁》:“年年岁岁花相似,岁岁年年人不同。”相似耳,是不尽同也。浪花句:杨慎《临江仙》:“滚滚长江东逝水,浪花淘尽英雄。”盖用苏轼《念奴娇·赤壁怀古》:“大江东去,浪淘尽、千古风流人物。”古英雄,即原文之Jamshyd与Kaikobád,皆古波斯王也。原文“初夏之月,带得蔷薇开也,又将彼王去也。”译文以春花、春水关联,暗点此意。

其十

英雄淘尽只由他,古帝名王干我何!谁管大人龙战怒?谁听小雅《鹿鸣》歌?

名王:《汉书·宣帝纪》:“匈奴单于遣名王奉献,贺正月,始和亲。”颜师古注:“名王者,谓有大名,以别诸小王也。”译文以饰言外邦之君王也。大人:《易·乾》:“利见大人。”龙战:《易·乾》:“龙战于野。”此译Zál 与 Rustum之怒战也。鹿鸣:《诗·小雅·鹿鸣》《小序》:“燕群臣嘉宾也。”此译Hátim之呼宴也。

That just divides the desert from the sown,
  Where name of Slave and Sultan is forgot—
And Peace to Mahmúd on his golden Throne!

其十一

中分瀚海与耕田,一带平沙细草前。惟愿君王全盛日,与侬留作小神仙。

君王:译原文“尽教Mahmud王之安享金座耳。”盖彼君王之全盛,尚不足慕,讽其无道之意宛然也。小神仙:周希陶《重订增广贤文》:“有书真富贵,无事小神仙。”译原文“在其处也,舆台与君王之别尽忘矣。”盖齐物而至于舆台与君王之无别,则其逍遥若小神仙矣。

A Book of Verses underneath the Bough,
A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread—and Thou
  Beside me singing in the Wilderness—
Oh, Wilderness were Paradise enow!

其十二

凉阴正好卷诗书,蔬食常丰薄酒馀。得汝清歌时一啭,何妨广漠是华胥!

卷诗书:杜甫《闻官军收河南河北》:“漫卷诗书喜欲狂。”蔬食:简食也。《论语·述而》:“饭疏食饮水,曲肱而枕之,乐亦在其中矣。”清歌时一啭:卢照邻《长安古意》:“清歌一啭口氛氲。”广漠:辽阔空旷貌。《庄子·逍遥游》:“今子有大树,患其无用,何不树之于无何有之乡,广莫之野?”华胥:《列子·黄帝》:“(黄帝)昼寝,而梦游于华胥氏之国。 华胥氏之国在弇州之西, 台州之北,不知斯齐国几千万里。盖非舟车足力之所及,神游而已。其国无帅长,自然而已;其民无嗜欲,自然而已…… 黄帝既寤,怡然自得。”以其为自然无嗜欲之境,译原文之“天堂”。此黄克孙译之佳作,其译曰:“一箪疏食一壶浆,一卷诗书树下凉。卿为阿侬歌瀚海,茫茫瀚海即天堂。”后来译者殊难为继。而眭谦兄译曰:“一片乾糇一卷诗,一壶美酒傍疏枝。荒原有汝歌清发,爰得乐郊无尽时。”殊不易也。余旧译:“亦有桐阴一卷诗,一箪食与一鸱夷。卿来广漠长歌罢,天上人间两不知。”去取之际,颇为踌躇,盖均不佳也。

Some for the Glories of This World; and some
Sigh for the Prophet's Paradise to come;
  Ah, take the Cash, and let the Credit go,
Nor heed the rumble of a distant Drum!

其十三

眼前富贵赚渠侬,海上蓬莱去不逢。还我及时一杯酒,兴亡休问景阳钟。

渠侬:他,方言也。杨万里《过瘦牛岭》诗:“夜来尚有馀樽在,急唤渠侬破客愁。”蓬莱:《史记·封禅书》:“自威、宣、燕昭使人入海求蓬莱、方丈、瀛洲,此三神山者,其传在勃海中。”译原文“先知之天堂”,皆幻境也。景阳钟:南朝齐武帝以宫深不闻端门鼓漏声,置钟于景阳楼上。事见《南齐书·皇后传·武穆裴皇后》。二句译原文“但得现钱,毋问契券。宫外鼓声尚遥,勿挂心耳。”

Laughing," she says, "into the world I blow,
  "At once the silken tassel of my Purse
"Tear, and its Treasure on the Garden throw."

其十四

恨不为卿言化工:“莫教含笑事东风。一朝吹得丝囊尽,漫许人誇拂地红。”

化工:造化也。贾谊《鵩鸟赋》:“且夫天地为炉兮,造化为工。”元稹 《春蝉》诗:“作诗怜化工,不遣春蝉生。”拂地红:温庭筠《屈柘词》:“杨柳萦桥绿,玫瑰拂地红。”原文云:“玫瑰环吾人怒放。彼云:我来此世间嫣然而放,忽然锦囊之丝穗自解,其中珍宝遍园中矣。”以中有凄怨,故以代言译之,庶得怨而不怒之旨。

And those who husbanded the Golden grain,
And those who flung it to the winds like Rain,
  Alike to no such aureate Earth are turn'd
As, buried once, Men want dug up again.

其十五

曰俭曰奢徒费吟,一朝身死总消沉。江头谁问怀沙恨?淘尽江沙只见金。

曰俭曰奢:李商隐《咏史》:“历览前贤国与家,成由勤俭破由奢。”怀沙《史记·屈原贾生列传》:“(屈原)《怀沙》之赋。于是怀石,遂自投汨罗以死。”原文云:“吝之者金视其谷,挥之者若风吹雨散。若辈皆不能如金沙,一朝沉埋,无复出矣。”译文后二句,遐出感慨。

The Worldly Hope men set their Hearts upon
Turns Ashes—or it prospers; and anon,
  Like Snow upon the Desert's dusty Face,
Lighting a little hour or two—is gone.

其十六

富贵区区徒尔为,荣华谁见不曾衰?茫茫一片胡沙雪,明灭逼人能几时?

徒尔为:徒然也。任昉《述异记》卷四:“石犬不可吠,铜驼徒尔为。”胡沙:边外之沙漠也。鲍君徽 《关山月》诗:“朔风悲边草,胡沙暗虏营。”明灭:忽明忽暗貌。李白《梦游天姥吟留别》:“云霞明灭或可睹。”

其十七

天地何妨逆旅看?门前日月转双丸。荣华多少逢迎尽,一样匆匆遣素檀。

逆旅:《左传·僖公二年》:“今虢为不道,保于逆旅。”杜预注:“逆旅,客舍也。”双丸:二弹丸也,以之拟日月。白玉蟾《述古》其一:“乾坤两饼分,日月双丸跳。”素檀:“苏丹”之别译,见《明史》

The Courts where Jamshyd gloried and drank deep:
  And Bahrám, that great Hunter—the Wild Ass
Stamps o'er his Head, but cannot break his Sleep.

其十八

巨殿高陵没棘丛,君臣宴乐一时空。野驴踏得骷髅破,不遇名王射虎弓。

棘丛:原文云:“皆云昔日Jamshyd豪饮盛宴之宫廷,今但付猛狮巨蜥矣。”以叶韵不易,改云“没棘丛”耳。名王:Bahram王也。传其善射云。

The Rose as where some buried Cæsar bled;
  That every Hyacinth the Garden wears
Dropt in her Lap from some once lovely Head.

其十九

经惯风腥草木穷,开从战血色逾红。纵教词客怜香泽,肯与钗钿坠处同?

风腥草木:元好问《壬辰十二月车驾东狩后即事》:“高原出水山河改,战地风来草木腥。”战血:原文云:“更无蔷薇红逾Coesar埋骨处者。”纵教二句:周邦彦《六丑·蔷薇谢后作》:“钗钿堕处遗香泽。”原文云:“园中之风信子,或坠自美人头上焉。”以风信子与美人似无瓜葛,或有译为玉簪花者。今译承上二句,仍作Rose视,用周邦彦词之典实,勾连美人之钗钿。

其二十

依依记得绿罗裙,芳草相怜意最殷。更著江头离别泪,滴成晴碧远连云。

依依二句:牛希济《生查子》:“记得绿罗裙,处处怜芳草。”晴碧远连云:欧阳修《少年游》:“栏干十二独凭春,晴碧远连云。”原文以River-Lip与Lip呼应,译文则以情人相怜之意与江头离别之泪呼应。

Ah, my Beloved, fill the Cup that clears
TO-DAY of past Regrets and future Fears:
  To-morrow!—Why, To-morrow I may be
Myself with Yesterday's Sev'n thousand Years.

其二十一

殷勤把酒劝卿卿,来日须同去日倾。万一明朝天地改,劫灰飞尽古今平。

天地改:陶渊明《拟古》其九:“枝条始欲茂,忽值山河改。”劫灰句:李贺《秦王饮酒》中之原句。原文云:“明日耶?明日之吾,恐已在七千年前之昨日矣。”盖莪默之时,波斯人以地球之龄为七千年也。长吉之句意甚合焉。

For some we loved, the loveliest and the best
That from his Vintage rolling Time hath prest,
  Have drunk their Cup a Round or two before,
And one by one crept silently to rest.

其二十二

当时座上尽豪英,春已高歌酒已倾。酒苦无多春苦短,凄凉忽向北邙行。

豪英:陈与义《临江仙·夜登小阁忆洛中旧游》:“忆昔午桥桥上饮,坐中多是豪英。”北邙:邙山,因在洛阳之北,故名。 东汉、魏、晋王侯公卿多葬此。沈佺期《邙山》诗:“北邙山上列坟茔,万古千秋对 洛城 。”后借指墓地。陶潜《拟古》其四:“一旦百岁后,相与还北邙。”原文云:“彼皆千古风流之人物,而为吾人所慕者也。年华酝酿,若葡萄之成酒。彼方饮一杯两盏,遽相随长眠不复醒矣。”译文以年华与佳酿并行,不用喻格。

And we, that now make merry in the Room
They left, and Summer dresses in new bloom,
  Ourselves must we beneath the Couch of Earth
Descend—ourselves to make a Couch—for whom?

其二十三

占得谁家歌舞场?腰肢弦管满华堂。寿非金石终须尽,又替谁家占北邙?

腰肢:李商隐《燕台四首·冬》:“空城罢舞腰肢在。”寿非金石:《古诗十九首》其十一:“人生非金石,岂能长寿考。”陆游《望梅》:“寿非金石。恨天教老向,水程山驿。”

Ah, make the most of what we yet may spend,
Before we too into the Dust descend;
  Dust into Dust, and under Dust to lie,
Sans Wine, sans Song, sans Singer, and—sans End

其二十四

富贵须行乐及身,人生奄忽若飙尘。一朝尘复归黄土,无酒无歌始识贫。

富贵句:《汉书·杨恽传》:“人生行乐耳,须富贵何时。”奄忽若飙尘:《古诗十九首》其四:“人生寄一世,奄忽若飙尘。”

Alike for those who for TO-DAY prepare,
And those that after some TO-MORROW stare,
  A Muezzin from the Tower of Darkness cries,
"Fools! your Reward is neither Here nor There."

其二十五

“来世茫茫今世空”,鸡人一语警愚蒙。金茎露冷建章殿,玉管风寒长乐宫。

鸡人:《周礼·春官·鸡人》:“鸡人掌共鸡牲,辨其物。大祭祀,夜嘑旦以嘂百官。凡国之大宾客、会同、军旅、丧纪,亦如之。凡国事为期,则告之时。凡祭祀,面禳衅,共其鸡牲。”后专指宫廷值漏者。陆倕 《新刻漏铭》:“坐朝晏罢,每旦晨兴,属传漏之音,听鸡人之响。”译原文之Muezzin,盖回教寺院叫拜楼上报呼祷告时刻者也。建章殿:喻汉武求仙之虚无。译原文“有人也,瞩目于明朝。”长乐宫:喻汉高行乐之虚无。译原文“有人也,绸缪于今日。”

Why, all the Saints and Sages who discuss'd
Of the Two Worlds so wisely—they are thrust
  Like foolish Prophets forth; their Words to Scorn
Are scatter'd, and their Mouths are stopt with Dust.

其二十六

方士硁硁术士诬,神仙毕竟是虚无。不闻大药黄金得,只见荒丘宿草芜。

方士:方术之士。《史记·封禅书》:“驺衍以阴阳主运显于诸侯,而燕齐海上之方士传其术不能通。”硁硁:《论语·子路》:“言必信,行必果,硁硁然小人哉!”此貌方士取信之态也。术士:言阴阳灾异之士。《汉书·夏侯胜传》:“曩者地震北海、琅邪,坏祖宗庙,朕甚惧焉。其与列侯、中二千石博问术士,有以应变,补朕之阙,毋有所讳。”牟融 《理惑论》:“牟子常以五经难之,道家术士,莫敢对焉。”大药:道家之丹也。杜甫《赠李白》诗:“苦乏大药资,山林迹如扫。”宿草:隔年之草。《礼记·檀弓上》:“朋友之墓,有宿草而不哭焉。”孔颖达疏:“宿草,陈根也,草经一年则根陈也,朋友相为哭一期,草根陈乃不哭也。”后常借指坟墓。原文云:“圣哲之言今世他世也,尽虚廓谈。一旦尘土掩其口,其言自败,曾愚妄术士辈之不若也!”今用汉晋方士、术士故实译之。魏新河兄译云:“天上人间迥不伦,例从圣哲问迷津。如今何故三缄口,雾锁尘封语莫陈。”

Myself when young did eagerly frequent
Doctor and Saint, and heard great argument
  About it and about: but evermore
Came out by the same door where in I went.

其二十七

当年遍问道根源,直造玄谈与圣论。生死茫茫终是惑,出时仍到入时门。

道根源:王禹偁《日长简仲咸》:“伯阳书见道根源。”玄谈:魏晋玄学之谈。葛洪《抱朴子·嘉遁》:“积篇章为敖庾,宝玄谈为金玉。”译原文之Doctor。圣论:班固《典引序》:“臣固常伏刻诵圣论,昭明好恶,不遗微细,缘事断谊,动有规矩。”译原文之Saint。余旧译:“志学曾希为圣徒,出游惟是访名儒。既知章句诚堪鄙,便把来途作去途。”以汉儒故实译之。嫌末句不典,更译。魏新河兄译云:“为问穷通好访贤,当年林下竞谈天。如今自顾依然我,却向来时路上还。”

With them the seed of Wisdom did I sow,
And with mine own hand wrought to make it grow;
  And this was all the Harvest that I reap'd—
"I came like Water, and like Wind I go."

其二十八

学尽多方作本根,得来全不见微言。道枢人极都休问,水迹风踪岂有痕?

多方:学博也。《庄子·天下》:“惠施多方,其书五车。”微言:微妙之言。刘歆《移书让太常博士》:“及夫子没而微言绝,七十子卒而大义乖。”道枢:《庄子·齐物论》:“彼是莫得其偶,谓之道枢。”人极:沈约《梁明堂登歌·歌黑帝》:“祚我无疆,永隆人极。”道枢二句译原文之“来如流水兮逝如风”,道枢句衬意,水迹句正言。魏新河兄译云:“亦知弘道似栽松,千尺干云有始终。却看此身何所有,来如流水去如风。”

Nor Whence, like Water willy-nilly flowing;
  And out of it, as Wind along the Waste,

其二十九

莫问根源到太初,莫寻根蒂向空虚。泾流有量秋时至,大块无心气自嘘。

太初:《列子·天瑞》:“太初者,气之始也。”泾流句:《庄子·秋水》:“秋水时至,百川灌河。泾流之大,两渚崖之间,不辨牛马。”大块:《庄子·齐物论》:“夫大块噫气,其名为风。”成玄英疏:“大块者,造物之名,亦自然之称也。”原文云:“不辨其因,不知其所从来,入此宇内,如水之潺潺;亦不知其所自去,如风之泠泠,沿广漠而吹焉。”译文交错其句,以《庄子》之辞润色之。魏新河兄译云:“莫从物理问源头,一脉天然自在流。无所由来无所去,暂如风翼掠沙丘。”

止酒:戒酒也。陶潜 《止酒》诗:“平生不止酒,止酒情无喜。”百岁哀:《古诗十九首》其十五:“生年不满百,常怀千岁忧。”大惑:极疑惑不解事。《韩非子·扬权》:“凡治之极,下不能得。周合刑名,民乃守职,去此更求,是谓大惑。”玄言:魏晋玄学之谈言。《晋书·简文帝纪》:“及长,清虚寡欲,尤善玄言。”此用为无征实之言。魏新河兄译云:“斫轮妙理固难宣,昔我曾经误几番。来去从今都不问,好凭杯酒到忘言。”

御气环巡列宿斜,拂云遥见镇星华。已经屈子无穷问,未到庄生不尽涯。

御气:犹御风。王融 《三月三日曲水诗序》:“时乘既位,御气之驾翔焉。”列宿:众星宿也,尤指二十八宿。《楚辞·九叹·远逝》:“指列宿以白情兮,诉五帝以置词。”王逸注:“言己愿后指语二十八宿,以列己清白之情。”镇星:土星也,以其二十八年行一周天,则年镇一宿也,故名。《资治通鉴·后周太祖广顺三年》:“镇星行至角亢。”胡三省注:“镇星,土星也。”屈子:王逸《楚辞章句》:“《天问》者,屈原之所作也。……屈原放逐,忧心愁悴。彷徨山泽,经历陵陆。嗟号昊旻,仰天叹息。见楚有先王之庙及公卿祠堂,图画天地山川神灵,琦玮僪佹,及古贤圣怪物行事。周流罢倦,休息其下,仰见图画,因书其壁,呵而问之,以渫愤懑,舒泻愁思。”庄生:《庄子·养生主》:“吾生也有涯,而知也无涯,以有涯随无涯,殆已。”原文云:“吾自地之心,升至天之第七门,而踞土星之座矣。天行之惑尽解,而运命之惑徒在焉。”盖波斯人视第七天为土星天也。译文以《天问》当天行之惑,以庄子之无涯为运命之叹也。黄克孙译甚佳,云:“骑鹤神游阿母台,七重天阙拂云来。玉皇仙籍偷观尽,司命天书揭不开。”

There was the Veil through which I might not see:

门掩瑶池帐掩宫,遥闻高会意难通。知谁偷得仙桃种?栽到人间一遍红。

瑶池:池名,传言在昆仑,西王母居处。《史记·大宛列传》:“昆崙其高二千五百馀里,日月所相避隐为光明也。其上有醴泉、瑶池 。”《穆天子传》卷三:“乙丑,天子觞西王母于瑶池之上。”仙桃:《汉武故事》:“东郡送一短人,……召东方朔问。朔至,呼短人曰:‘巨灵,汝何忽叛来,阿母还未?’短人不对,因指朔谓上曰:‘王母种桃,三千年一作子,此儿不良,已三过偷之矣。’” 原文云:“有户也,莫能得其键;有帘也,莫使见其内。亦有偶语吾汝者,倏而不复闻矣。”盖吾汝,帝与吾人也。借东方朔偷桃事衍译。

Earth could not answer; nor the Seas that mourn
In flowing Purple, of their Lord forlorn;
  Nor rolling Heaven, with all his Signs reveal'd
And hidden by the sleeve of Night and Morn.

欲问茫茫造化因,地无一语答吾人。海唯愁诉沧桑事,天自潜行十二辰。

造化:自然也。《庄子·大宗师》:“今一以天地为大炉,以造化为大冶,恶乎往而不可哉?”此句原文无,译文揣其意而衍出。沧桑:沧海桑田也,喻世事之大变。葛洪《神仙传·王远》:“麻姑自说云:‘接侍以来,已见东海三为桑田。’”原文云:“海亦不言,惟涌紫波,若悼其决绝之主人。”盖波斯人以紫衣为丧服。译文以沧桑事喻海之见绝也。十二辰:星次也。《史记·天官书》“斗秉兼之,所从来久矣。” 张守节《正义》:“言北斗所建秉十二辰,兼十二州,二十八宿,自古所用,从来久远矣。”沈括 《梦溪笔谈·象数一》:“今考子丑至于戌亥谓之十二辰者,《左传》云:‘日月之会是谓辰’,一岁日月十二会于东方,苍龙、角、亢之舍起于辰,故以所首者名之。”原文云:“天亦耳,但运其昼夜不止,如挥衣袖,十二辰隐现于其间也。”此亦黄克孙之佳译,云:“遍访乾坤总惘然,天垂日月寂无言。海涛悲涌深蓝色,不答凡夫问太玄。”

The Veil, I lifted up my hands to find
  A lamp amid the Darkness; and I heard,
As from Without—"THE ME WITHIN THEE BLIND!"

其三十四

直上遥天叫帝阍,帝其示我道根源。帝从天外遥相答:“道自昭昭汝自昏。”

帝阍:天帝之宫门也。《文选·扬雄甘泉赋》:“选巫咸兮叫帝阍,开天庭兮延群神。”李善注引服虔曰:“令巫祝叫呼天门也。”昭昭:明著也。《老子》:“俗人昭昭,我独昏昏。”原文云:“汝之在我,垂帘不使见。茫茫中吾举手欲乞一炬,而有言自空中来,曰:‘我之在汝,瞽哉!’”盖汝之在我,谓帝也;我之在汝,谓吾人也。

Then to the Lip of this poor earthen Urn
I lean'd, the Secret of my Life to learn:
  And Lip to Lip it murmur'd——"While you live,

紫泥杯里泛流霞,待问吾生可有涯?杯自殷勤来劝我:“君如不饮负韶华。”

流霞:泛言美酒。庾信 《卫王赠桑落酒奉答》诗:“愁人坐狭邪,喜得送流霞。”有涯:《庄子·养生主》:“吾生也有涯。”译原文“吾生之奥旨”。

I think the Vessel, that with fugitive
Articulation answer'd, once did live,
  And drink; and Ah! the passive Lip I kiss'd,
How many Kisses might it take——and give!

其三十六

问杯能饮一杯无?恐汝前身亦酒徒。阅尽醉中无限客,今来劝我只区区。

能饮一杯无:白居易《问刘十九》原句。酒徒:嗜酒者也。《韩非子·诡使》:“今死士之孤饥饿乞于道,而优笑酒徒之属乘车衣丝。”区区:微而不足道也。《左传·襄公十七年》:“宋国区区,而有诅有祝,祸之本也。”原文云:“彼器,方应吾言者也,必曾有生,必曾痛饮。吾今所接彼之唇,授受之吻亦必多矣,其漠然哉!”吾国文字直译之殊不典,但以“阅尽”二字了之也。

记驻行途看冶陶,冶中陶土作悲号:“君当太古原吾与,今日君工且缓操。”

太古:远古也。《荀子·正论》:“太古薄葬,故不抇也。”吾与:张载《西铭》:“民吾同胞,物吾与也。”原文为“兄弟”,是同胞也,彼陶土也,故译“吾与”。

传言黄土造为人,时有娲皇圣且神。抟者成尊縆者贱,一般代代是浮尘。

下泉:泉下也。王粲 《七哀诗》其一:“悟彼下泉人,喟然伤心肝。”浇坟上土:李贺《浩歌》:“有酒惟浇赵州土。”原文云:“吾人酹酒于地,酒自涓滴下渗耳。及其涓滴径入下泉久閟人目中,适灭彼愁苦之火也。”译文惟未用火之喻耳。

服食求仙所误多,百年将奈百忧何?不如挽取行觞女,同向筵前尽醉歌。

服食句:《古诗十九首》其十三:“服食求神仙,多为药所误。”百年:人寿百年也。《礼记·曲礼上》:“百年曰期。”陈浩集说:“人寿以百年为期,故曰期。”百忧:《诗·王风·兔爰》:“我生之初尚无造,我生之后逢此百忧。”行觞:犹行酒,依次敬酒也。《礼记·投壶》:“命酌,曰:‘请行觞。’”原文云:“毋复惑于天人之际矣,明朝之纠葛请付风中。且置若指于行觞者之发际,独不见彼身修如翠柏耶?”眭谦兄译曰:“性天不复惑人神,明日乱麻风解纷。拥醉当垆谁氏子,指间青发掌中身。”殊为相称。余译但以字面敷衍耳。

And if the Wine you drink, the Lip you press,

醇酒妇人聊且娱,由他随化向同途。既言昨日是今日,谁道新吾非故吾?

醇酒妇人:酒色也。《史记·魏公子列传》:“公子自知再以毁废,乃谢病不朝,与宾客为长夜饮,饮醇酒,多近妇女。”随化:顺大化也。《管子·宙合》:“所贤美于圣人者,以其与变随化也。”新吾、故吾:《庄子·田子方》:“虽忘乎故吾,吾有不忘者存。”郭象注:“虽忘故吾而新吾已至,未始非我,我何患焉?”

So when that Angel of the darker Drink
At last shall find you by the river-brink,
  And, offering his Cup, invite your Soul
Forth to your Lips to quaff—you shall not shrink.

其四十三

一旦行行至忘川,孟婆遥立望如仙。相迎满捧醇醲酒,君莫踟蹰不敢前。

忘川:俗传人既死,魂至忘川,过此即冥府也。川上有奈何桥,孟婆当之,使饮其汤,则前世尽忘矣。原文言天使,即以孟婆译;言黑酒,即以其汤译也。

Why, if the Soul can fling the Dust aside,
And naked on the Air of Heaven ride,
  Were't not a Shame—were't not a Shame for him
In this clay carcase crippled to abide?

其四十四

君若去为尸解仙,御风直上自泠然。多惭客养千金体,长笑齐州九点烟。

尸解仙:王充《论衡·道虚》:“所谓尸解者,何等也?谓身死精神去乎,谓身不死得免去皮肤也……如谓不死免去皮肤乎,诸学道死者骨肉俱在,与恒死之尸无以异也。”尸解仙为仙人之一种。《抱朴子·内篇·论仙》:“上士举形升虚,谓之天仙;中品游于名山,谓之地仙;下士先死后蜕,谓之尸解仙。”御风句:《庄子·逍遥游》:“列子御风而行,泠然善也。”客养:陶潜《饮酒》其十一:“客养千金躯,临化消其宝。”齐州:李贺《梦天》:“遥望齐州九点烟。”原文云:“吾魂如能弃其躯也,则摆落牵挂,淩虚而行。视向者之辗转尘下尸骸间,宁无愧耶?”以诸典实附会,殊无不合。

大行途上一穹庐,迎得王来暂驻舆。王去好教收拾起,明朝过客尚堪居。

大行:代指死也。《后汉书·安帝纪》:“孝和皇帝懿德巍巍,光于四海;大行皇帝不永天年。”李贤注引韦昭曰:“大行者,不反之辞也。天子崩,未有谥,故称大行也。”

And fear not lest Existence closing your
Account, and mine, should know the like no more;
  The Eternal Sáki from that Bowl has pour'd
Millions of Bubbles like us, and will pour.

其四十六

天地无穷德在生,百年生死若为惊?身如绿蚁新醅酒,持向神筵不住倾。

天地句:《易·系辞传》:“天地之大德曰生。”若为惊:《老子》第十三章:“宠辱若惊,贵大患若身。何谓宠辱若惊?宠为下,得之若惊,失之若惊,是谓宠辱若惊。何谓贵大患若身?吾所以有大患者,为吾有身。及吾无身,吾有何患?”绿蚁新醅酒:白居易《问刘十九》原句。原文云:“永存者岂欲销去吾汝乎?若此等事可毋忧也。不见神筵之行酒者乎?倾酒无尽。吾等止杯中之沫耳,倾之已千万数也。”译文意俱似,特用吾典润色之。

绵绵:《老子》第六章:“谷神不死,是谓玄牝,玄牝之门,是谓天地根。绵绵若存,用之不勤。”

渴饮何妨片刻留?甘泉一脉出荒丘。遥天幻出胡商队,空赚行人向尽头。

甘泉:《荀子·尧问》:“其犹土也,深抇之而得甘泉焉。”胡商:杜甫《滟滪》:“估客胡商泪满襟。”眭谦兄译曰:“驻轩片暇大荒中,遽饮神泉行色匆。征辔丁令如蜃影,自空处出复归空。”末二句尤谐原作。

街衢在地问无途,阊阖在天人漫呼。上下茫茫徒恨了,明朝恨到汝身无?

街衢:通衢大道也。《文选·班固西都赋》:“内则街衢洞达,闾阎且千。”李善注:“《说文》曰:‘街,四通也……’《尔雅》曰:‘四达谓之衢。’”阊阖:《楚辞·离骚》:“吾令帝阍开关兮,倚阊阖而望予。”王逸注:“阊阖,天门也。”原文云:“俯则大地固闭,仰则天门不启,尽徒然也。今汝犹是汝,尚得瞻视。明汝已非汝,将欲何为耶?”译文特未达今日明朝之相形耳。

合欢宫:新婚之宫室也。王昌龄《萧驸马宅花烛》:“青鸾飞入合欢宫。”喧阗:喧闹也。采蘅子 《虫鸣漫录》卷二:“凡新婚者,却扇之夕,亲朋杂遝,呼笑諠阗,谓之闹房。”高兴:兴致之高张也。武元衡 《酬王十八见招》诗:“高兴不辞千日醉,随君走马向新丰。”虚廓二句:虚廓,空阔也。曹植 《驱车篇》:“发举蹈虚廓。”原文云:“彼智老而无嗣,吾已休之矣。今则以葡萄之女为配哉!”其譬喻意殊难译之。今勉以虚廓天喻智之无实,以女儿红喻葡萄女之新婚耳。余旧译质言之曰:“昨日筵前笑语长,客来改尽旧庭堂。尽捐经史闲书卷,只备葡萄美酒浆。”亦不能佳。眭谦兄译曰:“慧根乏嗣耄倥侗,卷帐遣教栖冷宫。喜瑞盈门宴宾友,蒲桃新妇笑嫣红。”雅而能合。

远交近伐日相侵,费尽君王济世心。不及生前一杯酒,人间恩怨判消沉。

远交近伐:《战国策·秦策三》:“王不如远交而近攻,得寸则王之寸,得尺亦王之尺也。今舍此而远攻,不亦缪乎?”济世,救世也。《庄子·庚桑楚》:“简发而栉,数米而炊,窃窃乎又何足以济世哉?”成玄英疏:“此盖小道,何足救世。”原文云:“大Mahmúd若真主之临,异教黑奴当其风轮之剑,尽怀忧惧,纷纷退散矣。”盖以大Mahmúd喻酒、异教黑奴喻愁,言酒之驱愁,若大Mahmúd之驱异教黑奴也。译文变换其意,求其深也。

Why, be this Juice the growth of God, who dare
Blaspheme the twisted tendril as a Snare?
  A Blessing, we should use it, should we not?

帝使葡萄作酒浆,孰云藤蔓乱常纲?信知天赐终为福,但恐人谋竟是殃。

吾身一旦掩松蒿,那觅仙家白玉膏?覆了忘忧杯里物,馀生何处避忧劳?

松蒿:墓上之松与蒿,即借指墓也。黄滔《祭崔补阙》:“肴匪丰俎,酒匪馨壶。叹松蒿以永往,托蘋藻以聊舒。”白玉膏:玉之脂膏,可为仙药也。《山海经·西山经》:“丹水出焉……其中多白玉,是有玉膏。其原沸沸汤汤,黄帝是食是飨。”郭璞注引《河图玉版》:“少室山,其上有白玉膏,一服即仙矣。”忘忧:干宝《搜神记》卷十一:“夫酒忘忧,故能消之也。”原文云:“此亦生之慰也,吾所以断绝者,或惧身后之追索,或冀泉下之佳饮。”译文以“忘忧物”译“生之慰”,以“仙家白玉膏”译“泉下之佳饮”,用吾典为饰也。余旧译曰:“达人换酒解金龟,愚者当筵罢玉卮。苦道来生有偿欠,漫教今日付栖迟。”嫌不足于信也。

幻妄俱从嗜欲生,天堂地狱本虚名。茫茫我自闲来去,一起机心有不平。

嗜欲:贪欲也。《荀子·性恶》:“妻子具而孝衰于亲,嗜欲得而信衰于友,爵禄盈而忠衰于君。”天堂地狱:《宋书·夷蛮传·天竺婆黎国》:“叙地狱则民惧其罪,敷天堂则物欢其福。”机心:机巧之心。《庄子·天地》:“吾闻之吾师,有机械者必有机事,有机事者必有机心。机心存于胸中,则纯白不备。”成玄英疏:“有机动之务者,必有机变之心。”原文云:“天堂者,欲念之虚足也。地狱者,火焚之心魂投诸暗地之幻影也。方从彼出,旋复将逝。”盖天堂地狱所以不齐者,生人之有嗜欲也。其出与逝,浮游乘化之事,一起机心,乃有不平也。故译文如是言也。

The Ball no question makes of Ayes and Noes,
But Here or There as strikes the Player goes;

玉勒金鞍笑打毬,一杆击处看星流。偶然堕地真游戏,怨甚君身不自由?

玉勒二句:王直《端午日观打球》:“玉勒千金马,雕文七宝球。鞚飞惊电掣,杖奋觉星流。”游戏:嬉戏也。《韩非子·难三》:“管仲之所谓‘言室满室,言堂满堂’者,非特谓游戏饮食之言也,必谓大物也。”原文云:“彼知一切也。彼知之!彼知之!”而未言所知,此但以游戏译之耳。自由:任由自身也。《古诗为焦仲卿妻作》:“吾意久怀忿,汝岂得自由?”

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
  Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,

挥毫司命簿中书,夭寿无情尽在予。好学积仁庸得易?哀陈泣诉莫能纾。

司命:掌生死之神。《庄子·至乐》:“吾使司命复生子形,为子骨肉肌肤。”司命簿即生死簿也。夭寿句:《楚辞·大司命》:“纷总总兮九州,何寿夭兮在予。”好学:《论语·公冶长》:“敏而好学,不耻下问,是以谓之文也。”此译智也。积仁:《史记·伯夷列传》:“若伯夷、叔齐,可谓善人者非邪?积仁絜行如此而饿死!”此译虔也。

And that inverted Bowl they call the Sky,
Whereunder crawling coop'd we live and die,
  Lift not your hands to It for help——for It

上者苍苍是一穹,茫然下覆作樊笼。我来生死因休问,天自回旋势所同。

上者二句:《乐府诗集·杂歌谣辞·敕勒歌》:“天似穹庐,笼盖四野。”穹,隆起貌,故以译覆碗。我来二句:原文云:“毋举手呼其助也,彼之无能一如吾汝。”译文益以苍茫之致耳。

羲和:《楚辞·离骚》:“吾令羲和弭节兮,望崦嵫而勿迫。”王逸注:“羲和,日御也。”《初学记》卷一引《淮南子·天文训》:“爰止羲和,爰息六螭,是谓悬车。”原注:“日乘车,驾以六龙,羲和御之。”译原文之天马,即日也。旄头:昴宿也。《汉书·天文志》:“昴曰旄头,胡星也,为白衣会。”即原文之Parwin也。岁星:木星也。盖木星十二年行一周天,分天为十二次。年经一次,以其所在星次纪年,称岁星也。《史记·天官书》:“察日月之行,以揆岁星顺逆。”即原文之Mushtari也。茫茫二句:原文云:“掷诸吾尘与魂之定命。”此占星家语,谓日之所值,吾人命有所定焉。而吾人以尘为躯,以魂为主也。译文以“黄尘”示吾人,以“红云”示定命也。

理欲:天理人欲之省也。《礼记·乐记》:“人化物也者,灭天理而穷人欲者也。”《宋史·陈宓传》:“宓天性刚毅,通道尤笃,尝为《朱墨铭》,谓朱属阳,墨属阴,以验理欲分寸之多寡。”原文云:“自不仁之虚无所出之血肉,宁是能感之有乎?尚能怨此锢哀乐之节耶?不中者其必受永世之罚也!”译文不用此反语,而正言之也。

What! from his helpless Creature be repaid
Pure Gold for what he lent him dross-allay'd—
  Sue for a Debt he never did contract,

娲皇泥土予吾人,还以精金铸圣身。此事凭谁相约束?世间妄意总非真。

原文云:“彼付者泥滓也,而索者精金也。为彼所造者何无奈耶!吾人固未尝贷也,何偿为?此贸易之最堪悲者哉!”译文缓其激切,不以渎圣也。

抟土縆泥意已差,力穷竟未拔其蛇。人神从此交相恕,更以何心判正邪?

力穷句:李商隐《咏史》:“力穷难拔蜀山蛇。”交相:互相也。《诗·小雅·角弓》:“不令兄弟,交相为瘉。”孔颖达疏:“其不善之人于兄弟则无恩义,唯交更相诟病而已。”人神句:原文云:“汝以诸罪黥人之面,汝既予赦,又得赦也!”译文之后句衍原文之前句也。余旧译云:“何事人身用土浆?何缘蛇迹在仙乡?竟知善恶由谁作?帝力人心漫较量。”嫌于第二句无吾国故实,故用义山诗字面改译之。

只待消除禁食天,望中红日尚西悬。陶家坊肆重行到,瓮缶纷纷拥我前。

瓮歌行:原文KUZA-NAMA(Pot-book)之译。瓮,陶瓶也。此九首假为诸瓮缶之言。禁食天:原文Ramazán之译,伊斯兰历第九月,斋月也。后即Shawwal,开斋节始矣。此斋月之末日也,日尽则斋月终也。

Shapes of all Sorts and Sizes, great and small,
That stood along the floor and by the wall;
  And some loquacious Vessels were; and some
Listen'd perhaps, but never talk'd at all.

红泥紫釉自斑斓,巨瓮长瓶各就班。或挂壁间歌不止,或陈地上态偏闲。

红泥句:原文但言式样、大小,未言色采,盖非彩陶也。此红泥紫釉,但见其烧制火候之异,亦言式样,非言色采也。就班:居其当位也。陆机《文赋》:“然后选义按部,考辞就班。”

或言身本在泥陶,成毁由人信手操。今是壶樽明是土,若他生死岂徒劳?

若君句:原文但言徒劳,不譬人之生死。而壶之成毁,实即人之生死也,故作是译。

Then said a Second——"Ne'er a peevish Boy
Would break the Bowl from which he drank in joy;
  And He that with his hand the Vessel made
Will surely not in after Wrath destroy."

或言否否请深思,大匠焉能似此嬉!见说儿童惜杯盏,孰云君子败尊彝?

大匠:木工之精诣者。《老子》:“夫代司杀者杀,是谓代大匠斲。夫代大匠斲者,稀有不伤其手矣。”此指陶工,而又譬夫造物者也。尊彝:礼器也。《周礼·春官·司尊彝》:“司尊彝,掌六尊六彝之位。”《国语·周语中》:“出其尊彝,陈其俎豆。”韦昭注:“尊、彝皆受酒之器也。”原文云:“其次者曰:虽狡童不毁其杯盏,盖尝欣然以之饮也。即盛怒下,彼岂必轻毁我辈哉!”译文“君子败尊彝”云云,旁衍之慨叹耳。

After a momentary silence spake
Some Vessel of a more ungainly Make;
  "They sneer at me for leaning all awry:
What! did the Hand then of the Potter shake?"

时则诸壶默不言,忽闻窳器苦鸣冤:“人皆笑我形枯槁,失手谁于大匠论?”

窳:恶也。《史记·五帝纪》:“器不苦窳。”

Whereat some one of the loquacious Lot—
I think a Súfi pipkin—waxing hot—
  "All this of Pot and Potter—Tell me, then,
Who is the Potter, pray, and who the Pot?"

时有能言小缶来,善齐物论语相开:“若知天下无同异,窳器何输大匠才?”

善齐物论:《庄子》《齐物论》篇。原文之小缶,执伊斯兰苏菲教派之泛神说,译文以齐物说拟之也。语相开:苏轼《减字木兰花·彭门留别》:“一语相开,匹似当初本不来。”同异:《庄子·天下》:“大同而与小同异,此之谓小同异;万物毕同毕异,此之谓大同异。”原文云:“方其时,有多言者,或一苏菲派之小缶也,愠怒曰:陶器与陶工何为哉?君试告我:孰为陶工?孰为陶器?”今以齐物说拟之,故语多旷达也。

长年销尽世间情,中圣何须避浊清?不许浅斟邀令誉,便将低唱抵浮名。

长年句:原文云“世间声望尽败”,故译云“销尽世间情”也。中圣:醉酒也。李白 《赠孟浩然》诗:“醉月频中圣,迷花不事君。”此译原文之Idols。浊清:酒之清者佳、浊者劣也。不许二句:柳永《鹤冲天》:“忍把浮名, 换了浅斟低唱。”

其九十四

几回年少悔疏狂?也向尊前忏一场。待得春风吹酒醒,又拚今世为花忙。

忏一场:玉并《南乡子·棠院养疴谱此遣闷》:“移榻就红芳,绮恨和鹦忏一场。”为花忙:欧阳修《望江南》:“长是为花忙。”

其九十五

毁尽荣名误尽吾,事犹不解酒家胡。卿来卖此忘忧物,一世欢颜买得无?

酒家胡:当垆侍酒之胡姬。辛延年 《羽林郎》诗:“昔有霍家奴,姓冯名子都。依倚将军势,调笑酒家胡。胡姬年十五,春日独当垆。”原文云:“酒诚误我者,尽夺吾之荣名矣。然我犹不解,彼卖酒者所得何物,其价能及彼所卖者之半耶?”译文以韶华之胡姬为言,牵合忧与欢也。

Yet Ah, that Spring should vanish with the Rose!
That Youth's sweet-scented manuscript should close!
  The Nightingale that in the branches sang,
Ah whence, and whither flown again, who knows!

其九十六

花已飘零春已归,韶华不住漫依依。枝头自爱黄鹂啭,谁晓去来何处飞?

韶华:青春年也。李贺 《嘲少年》诗:“莫道韶华镇长在,发白面皱专相待。”原文云:“青春之诗卷亦已掩矣。”韶华句译此意也。黄鹂啭:王维《积雨辋川庄作》:“阴阴夏木啭黄鹂。”

One glimpse—if dimly, yet indeed, reveal'd,
  To which the fainting Traveller might spring,
As springs the trampled herbage of the field!

其九十七

茫茫瀚海见泉踪,渴极行人一跃从。若踏陌头春草偃,顷时昂起复蒙茸。

草偃:《论语·颜渊》:“君子之德风,小人之德草,草上之风,必偃。”蒙茸:葱茏之草木也。苏轼 《后赤壁赋》:“履巉岩,披蒙茸。”原文云:“漠上但有一线之甘泉,虽隐约而能瞥见,疲人必一跃而从,若踏偃之草复又挺立。”此喻颇难移译也。旧译曰:“漠上甘泉在望中,疲人岂惧路难穷?此时应似沙头草,踏遍还伸不屈躬。”尤不佳也。

Arrest the yet unfolded Roll of Fate,
  And make the stern Recorder otherwise
Enregister, or quite obliterate!

其九十八

仙人来日尚迢遥,犹及韶年未尽凋。乞把平生重付与,眼前罪悔一时销。

迢遥:远貌。颜延之 《秋胡诗》:“迢遥行人远,婉转年运徂。”佳年也。唐德宗《中和节日宴百僚赐诗》:“韶年启仲序,初吉谐良辰。”原文云:“祈天使展翼之来也,犹有馀时,得掩此运命之卷。使彼至严之书吏重笔之,或则尽削之。”译文以吾邦之辞韵写之,而其意宛然。

Ah Love! could you and I with Him conspire
To grasp this sorry Scheme of Things entire,
  Would not we shatter it to bits——and then
Re-mould it nearer to the Heart's Desire!

其九十九

帝意真能感应无?遣教吾汝握灵枢。不须宇宙俱颠覆,重画先天太极图。

感应:神明之响应人事也。颜之推 《颜氏家训·归心》:“神通感应,不可思量。”刘知几 《史通·书事》:“幽明感应,祸福萌兆则书之。”灵枢:天枢也,北斗之第一星。秦观《代贺兴龙节表》:“大吕飞灰,爰属星回之序;灵枢绕电,实当圣诞之期。”以译原文“万物之格度”也。先天太极图:亦名天地自然之图,云是陈抟所传,宋儒之说也。重画之,即译原文之重铸万物也。原文云:“所欢乎!彼真能与吾汝同心耶?尽握万物之格度。我辈乃不必先毁之,而后从心以铸之也。”

明月寻人夜夜来,盈虚不改此追陪。凄凉知有谁相遇?只向空园照冷杯。

盈虚:月之圆缺也。徐敞《圆灵水镜》诗:“明灭沦江水,盈虚逐砌蓂。”追陪:徐侨《常自在歌》:“清风明月相追陪。”冷杯:白居易《和薛秀才寻梅花同饮见赠》:“便试花前饮冷杯。”汪梦川译云:“彼月重临若遂初,尔来无尽度盈虚。何期旧苑相寻处,却道斯人已阙如。”
